Bio

Calvin B Mardembrough Jr. affectionately called “Cali” or “Calie” was born on May 18 1989 on the beautiful Dutch Caribbean island of St.Maarten. Within the first few months of his birth, Cali showed signs of inheriting the musical genes passed down to him from his father. Born during the peak of his father’s musical career, he exhibited two important qualities that make his achievements thus far understandable to those who know him.

At seven months he showed impatience and began to walk, and at the tender age of nine months he was already memorizing and singing melodies of songs being sung by the older kids at the day care center

Recognizing his love for music, he received his first drum set for Christmas when he was one year old. A few years later, craving further development, he attended music classes where he acquired basic musical knowledge and was taught how to play the piano.

In 1999, Cali was challenged by yet another instrument, the trumpet. He received his first trumpet in the year 2000 and once again Cali’s inherent talent became apparent. The very first time he placed the trumpet to his mouth, he produced sound.

Cali took to this instrument immediately and a year later he had his first public performance.

Although he had found his instrument of choice, Cali continued to fool around with his keyboards and had already begun sequencing on his computer using cakewalk and other midi software.

Shortly thereafter he joined and performed with the Community Brass Band as their youngest member.

He also made his first video clip performing “Have yourself a Merry Christmas” in December 2002.

Cali is the recipient of numerous recognitions/awards for his musical skills.

In 2003 he was recognized for his musical achievements during a youth seminar.

In 2004 he received the St. Maarten Outstanding Youth Awards Recipient in the Music category

In 2006 he received recognition for his performance at the Royal Decoration Ceremony

In 2007 he received the St. Maarten Outstanding Youth Award, in the Music category

Growing up Cali listened to all types of music, unlike most his age who were mainly into Rap music.

Cali has an ear for music from Lil Wayne, Drake and Alicia Keys right down to Earth Wind &Fire and Lionel Richie. This love of music excites him and drives him to explore the many dimensions of the music industry.

Cali has indeed explored many aspects of the entertainment industry, as a member of the “Community Brass Band”,” the 21st Century band”, “The Military Rebels Rap group”, and the dance group “Spotlight”.

Ultimately gaining respect and admiration for arranging and producing 2 CD’s for his Jam-Band “District Band” with hits like “Just the Things you Do”, “I Just Wanna Dance” , “Unity” and “Hold Yuh Balance”

Cali holds a diploma in Audio Engineering/Recording from Canada’s EMI recognized hands on Studio Engineering and Production educational institute, TARA.

While in Toronto Cali had the opportunity to gain work experience with producer Martin”DOC” McKinney while he worked on projects for “RES”, “ABEL”, just to name a few.

During that time Cali also crossed paths daily with EMI-songwriter/musician Gord Richards, whose skills and musical contribution will have a long lasting effect.

Currently, Cali is working on several projects with Solo Kween, Lil Shawty and has started discussions regarding collaborating with other artists. Cali is putting the finishing touches to his Solo album that will feature his hit singles “YES YOU” and “SWAGGIN”
